Game Room

Carpenter’s School Site Council approved a proposal by Mr. Martinez and Arlene Kehala (parent) to enhance Carpenter’s school-wide positive behavior plan.  In a nutshell, the proposal was to create a Game Room for students in grades 1-5 to enjoy on Friday afternoons after lunch.  Students will be able to collect Cougar Coupons during the week for demonstrating one of the seven pillars of character (responsibility, trustworthiness, kindness, caring, etc.).  Students who have three coupons on Fridays can either cash in their coupons and go to the game room for twenty minutes after lunch, or they can continue to put their coupons into the Cougar Box in the main office.  Mr. Martinez randomly selects one student from each grade level on Friday afternoons, announces their names over the P.A. system, and gives those students prizes and recognition for demonstrating positive behavior at school.

The Game Room is a way for students to guarantee themselves a reward for earning a Cougar Coupon.   Currently, we pass out approximately 300-400 coupons a week and only 6 students are recognized (slightly better odds than winning the lottery).  Students will be able to play board games with friends in other classes in the Game Room.  A combination of school administrators and volunteer parents will supervise the Game Room each week.

In order for the game room to be a success, we will need games designed to promote creative thinking and problem solving.  In addition, these games must be played in under twenty minutes.  Since many students will be using these games, it is preferred that each game not have too many playing pieces that can be easily lost.

If you would like to donate a game for Carpenter’s Game Room, so that we have an exciting room for students to enjoy, we kindly ask that you select one of the games from the wish list.  All of these games have been approved by Mr. Martinez and can be purchased from mindware.com.  All donated games can be delivered to the main office.  Please clearly label each game with the name of the family making the donation so that we may recognize your kindness.  The Game Room will officially open on Friday, January 15, 2009.  Your support and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Please note that you may purchase the game from any store, but:

please purchase the identical item that appears in the desription
