Parent/School Groups
Parents for Carpenter Website
Parents for Carpenter (PFC) is a non- profit volunteer organization formed in 1986 by a group of enthusiastic parents for the sole purpose of raising funds to support Carpenter Avenue School. PFC is a 501C3 organization dedicated to endowing various programs that have been curtailed due to federal, state and local budget limits. Especially during this time of budget cuts for schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District, PFC continues to be a strong support for the education and enrichment programs that benefit our children.
Our kids enjoy the benefits of Physical Education with Coach Marty Rackham.
Through its ongoing fundraising
programs, Parents for Carpenter provides Carpenter students with
weekly music, physical education (including dance), science, and
media lab classes. PFC also funds a credentialed teacher for 4th
and 5th grade downsizing giving the larger classes an
opportunity for smaller learning groups in math and language arts.
PFC also provides educational materials, aides for our teachers and
administration, school enrichment events and funding for campus
improvements, among other benefits. These are all programs that are
in place due to monetary donations and volunteer support.
Although PFC is
not directly connected to, or bound by the rules of any other
organization, PFC works in concert with the PTA, school administration
and the SSC/LEARN council. PFC meetings are held monthly (PTA/PFC
meetings are held monthly on Thursday mornings at 8:15am. and are
open
to all Carpenter families). We look forward to your voice and
participation. Our first meeting in the 2009 school year is an evening meeting (6:30pm) on September 24.
There are many ways to participate in PFC. The two major fundraisers are the Annual Giving Campaign (AGC) and the Dinner Dance and Auction held at the end of the school year. These raise the majority of funds that pay for our specialists (music, PE, dance, media lab and science) and programs. We have many other fundraisers throughout the year to raise all of the yearly budget. Please check the Parents for Carpenter website at www.parentsforcarpenter.com for details on the budgets and fundraising events.
The PFC welcomes your involvement. If you have agenda items that you would like to have included in the PTA/PFC meeting, please contact the appropriate committee chair listed below (one week in advance) so that we can add your information to the agenda or answer any questions in advance.
PFC, PTA and the Student Site Council all maintain mailboxes in the main office. Please feel free to drop a note into the appropriate folder at any time to ask a question or make a suggestion.
We are all Carpenter parents and we all have a voice. We look forward to hearing from you.
Every student gets instruction in music with Mrs. Taweel, our music teacher.
