RecyclingCarpenter's CRV Beverage Container Recycling  Program

We invite you to be a part of our ongoing fundraising program by  bringing your CRV plastic and aluminum beverage containers to  campus for recycling.
Carpenter Ave PTA has partnered with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps in an effort to provide recycling bins for CRV beverage containers on  campus.  All you have to do is save your plastic and aluminum  containers and bring them to school - daily, weekly or whatever works for  you!  We have collections bins on campus located near the lunch table  (a large green bin) and along the Laurel Canyon side by the exit gate  (separate blue bins).

Please encourage your child to participate in our CRV Beverage  Container Recycling Program by creating a place to store your  beverage containers (for example a brown bag in the kitchen...) and bringing  them to school every week. They can drop them right into the bin before they  head off to class. It's a great way to start the conversation about recycling and our environment and our school  directly benefits by receiving money for every container. Parents can also  help by bringing beverage containers from work or your  gym. Remember: SAVE your beverage containers and raise money for our school!

Reminder: this recycling program is for CRV beverage containers only!
NO EMPTY FOOD CONTAINER OR OTHER CONTAINERS- please recycle  those items in home recycling bins.
CRV is paid on the following types of beverages:
Carbonated and noncarbonated water
Carbonated and noncarbonated soft drinks and sport drinks
Coffee and  tea drinks
Beer and other malt beverages
Chocolate milk or other  flavored milks
Wine

CRV is not paid on the following:
White Milk
Medical food
Infant  formula
Distilled spirits
100% fruit juice in containers 46 oz. or  more
Products not in liquid or "ready to drink" form
Products not  intended for human consumption
Containers not made of aluminum, glass,  metal, or plastic

Cell Phone Recycling

Carpenter Ave PTA has partnered with Phoneraiser to recycle old cell phones. Please help out by bringing your old cell phones to the drop box located in the Parent Resource Room (behind the auditorium). It's good for our school (we raise money for our school from the old phones) and it's good for the environment: "Improper disposal of cell phones is a serious threat to our environment. Every cell phone contains no less that 8 hazardous materials including Arsenic, Antimony, Beryllium, Cadmium, Copper, Lead, Nickel and Zinc. Disposing of these phones in a landfill allows these substances to leach into groundwater and soil. Burning them in an incinerator releases chemicals associated with reproductive complications, cancers, and developmental problems especially in children. In 2006 alone, more than 130 million cell phones will be discarded. One cell phone can pollute up to 132,000 liters of water."

Ink Cartridge Recycling
You can bring your old ink cartridges to the drop off area outside the media lab in the primary building.

Reusable Grocery/Tote Bags
Let's stop using plastic and paper bags and start using reusable bags! Now you can purchase your very own Carpenter Avenue Canvas tote bag - look for them at the Spirit Wear table at various events throughout the year (Back To School Night, Open House...).
